Quad Safari in Crete

Just two words for the Quad Safari in Crete: adrenaline and fun.

You can rent a quad every second shop in most of Crete however an organised tour will take you to the less-visited part of Crete where you can discover the real local life.

A qualified multilingual guide leads the group of quads through narrow streets shallow rivers and worth seeing views all the time through.

These are all places where I would personally not adventure on my own and possibly get stuck somewhere.

But with a local expert, things become so interesting because I am given the confidence to go beyond my limits and venture in the hidden parts of Crete.

It is a 4-hour tour, either in the morning or the late afternoon, a great fun experience. Unmissable

The Quad Safari in Crete – In a nutshell

Please fill in with as much info as you can. I may extend where needed

Location: Sofokli Venizelou st. 15 / Kavafi st. 3 (corner), Rethymnon

Pick up Area: the tour leaves from the Rethymnon area with pickup from your hotel included in the price

Typical duration: There are 2 excursions every day. One in the morning starting at 9:30am till 1:30pm and one in the afternoon at 4pm and ending at 8pm

Available Days: every day of the week, however, being a popular activity I highly suggest to book well in advance

Languages spoken by the tour guides: The tour is guided in the English language, however, you really do not need much to learn how to run the quad and how to follow the guide

Available vehicle models: 450cc for the quads and 570cc for the buggies

Off-road experience: the tour is split evenly between an off-road experience and a few sealed roads connecting the unpaved roads.

Water/food: Mineral water, as well as sandwiches, are provided in the tour making it a no worries experience. No need to carry around stuff.

Don’t forget: suncream, a hat and you have to wear gym/training shoes if you drive. Highly recommended also for the passenger

Top 3 unmissable attractions in the tour:

  1. Viewpoint near Prasses village  where you will experience a magnificent view of Rethymno and the north coast of Crete
  2. The Amari Dam Reservoir, providing the drinking water to the region. The tour drives around the area. Funny enough, a few years ago a crocodile was spotted on the beach, left behind by a wild animal collector. They tried to catch it without any lack and it enjoyed the Cretan summer in the reservoir but unfortunately, it did not make it through the cold winter.
  3. The traditional Cretan kafenion where you can have a really strong coffee shot, the Greek way. Just remember to drink it slowly, almost tasting it, so that the coffee residual stays in the bottom. Do not drink it the Italian way (quick espresso), otherwise, you will get also the coffee residual.
  • Children friendly (Families and kids): because of the nature of the trip, kids are allowed only as passengers and only above 4 years old
  • All drivers should be over 18 years old and owners of a valid driving license

There is the possibility to rent quads and buggies as well, although only a couple are available. Either way, the ride start from Rethymno and he goes up in the hills north of town, right in the core of Crete

Part of the ride follows the tiny river from the Potami Dam and it goes across it in a few places. That's what takes this quad safari a step ahead from just renting your own quad. You get to visit places known only by the locals

Arrival to the Amari Dam Reservoir, much bigger that you may expect. It provides water to a good part of the Cretan population

Riding the quad along the unsealed road is such a fun way to spend the morning (or late afternoon). The session lasts around 4 hours but it's so intense that the time flies so quickly
