Best photos of Astypalaia Island, from the beaches to the Chora (Old Town)
I had such a gorgeous time photographing Astypalaia, such a photogenic island.
The best tip I can give is to rent either a scooter or a car and explore the island at your pace.
The local bus runs only 4-5 times a day and it connects only the major destinations.
You will miss out in some spectacular landscape photography opportunities, especially west of Livadia.
If you scroll down you will see my best photos of Astypalaia Island beside some techy information that you can easily bypass if not interested.
And remember to leave a comment, I usually reply in no time.

The techy side of my pictures in Astypalaia
In this trip, I took my old Nikon D610 with a 24-105mm F/4 lens.
It’s a great camera that, still today, is able to produce amazing photos with a good dynamic range.
The only drawback I found was the heavyweight. It was a bit of a pain to transport it around (but now I am used to a light Sony A7 mirrorless).
I loved making photos of the Astypalaia Chora, absolutely a must when on the island.
Walk up to the castle for the best view. The gate closes just before sunset time.
I found other great spots west of Livadia, with the winding road working perfectly as a leading line to the Chora.
I absolutely missed my drone. If you have one, take it with you, however, pay attention to the wind, especially on the north coast, it can be really strong in the late afternoon.
Please note that “Chora”, “Old Town” and “Astypalaia Town” are interchangeable definitions of the same place.
